To everything – turn, turn, turn
There is a season – turn, turn, turn
And a time for every purpose under heaven”

The lyrics of this well-known song originate from The Bible, Ecclesiastes 3:1-8, the passage continues; “A time to be born, and a time to die; a time to plant, and a time to pluck up that which is planted”

Our actions are driven by our desires, and how to fulfil them. To fulfil our needs and wants we require a keen sense of timing, when to start or stop, push or pull. Most people have a poor sense of timing, because we are disconnected from nature. We, humans, think we call the shots and can achieve anything with sheer will or domination.  This is not entirely true. Our lives are affected by cycles. Some are impossible to ignore, such as day and night, seasons and our menstrual cycle. Others are hard to notice but affect us profoundly.

Learn to get in synch with the cyclical nature of life by consulting the moon for when to take action relating to your intentions and goals. Are you still with me, because this is usually where many people mentally check out? Consult the moon!

The moon has a very powerful influence on the earth and its inhabitants. It controls the tides of the ocean, the biggest body of water on earth. Over two thirds of a human body is water, the water content of the brain is even higher at 80%.  If the moon controls the ebb and flow of the 1.347 x 10^21 litres in the ocean, what of your measly 37 litres?

Older generations had a better appreciation of the moon’s role. Many rituals and ceremonies were timed on moon phases. Some farmers still consult the moon for optimal times to sow and reap. For example, they will plant above ground crops, such as cabbages when the moon is waxing (increasing) and below ground crops like carrots when the moon is waning (decreasing).

I’m sure you avoid sweeping the yard on a windy day and if you really must, you sweep in the direction in the direction the wind is blowing as opposed to against it. The same principle applies to the moon and you intentions.

Here is a basic moon phase 101

  • The New Moon supports new beginnings making it the ideal time to start any new ventures.
  • When the moon is Waxing, increasing from new to full, it is conducive for growth and attracting things. This is a good time to start a new eating plan for increased energy or to ask for a salary increase.
  • During the Full Moon pause, review and consider what you need to let go.
  • The moon is waning, when it appears to decrease in size. During this stage it supports the energy of repelling, releasing, and winding down. This is a good time to end a relationship or start a weight loss diet.

Cut your hair while the moon is waning and it will grow back slower than if you do it during the waxing moon. A relationship ending during a full or waning moon is more likely to remain final than if ended during the new or waxing moon.

It is not a coincidence that women’s menstrual cycle and the moon cycle are both 28 days. Pay attention to the external moon cycle and how it affects your life and you will cultivate an appreciation for you own internal ebb and flow.
